Offshore construction update - May 2020

Installation of the 102 wind turbines was completed in April 2020. Commissioning works will continue until all the turbines are complete. The output from the windfarm is already making a very significant contribution by producing the clean, 100% renewable energy to help the UK’s transition to net-zero.

Electricity from the windfarm is stepped down by transformers on the offshore substation. Export cables from the substation then transfer the electricity from the windfarm to the Suffolk coast. From here, a 37km (23 mile) onshore cable route takes the electricity around the north of Ipswich to a new onshore substation near Bramford. The power is then stepped back up before being fed into the National Grid.
