Graduates Complete First Year on The Job

At the end of 2020 we spoke to two employees who have just completed the first year in their graduate roles, Alice O’Brien and Tim Minshall.

Alice, a Commercial Offshore Wind Graduate, provides commercial and contractual support as part of the Global Contract Management Team for ScottishPower Renewables’ East Anglia Hub.

Alice reflected on her first year with the company: “Starting a graduate scheme in a new employment sector has been a great move for me; I’ve received training that will be invaluable to me in my future career. The role is 60% work and 40% training, flexibly structured around each graduate’s needs. My favourite thing about working for ScottishPower Renewables is that I can see the tangible benefits, such as the amount of homes we are supplying with green energy.”

"The graduate scheme is broken up into a series of placements which have been vital in showing how ScottishPower Renewables works as a company."

Tim was a ScottishPower Scholar and studied for a Masters in Engineering and Climate Change at the University of East Anglia (UEA). After completing the Masters Scholarship Programme he joined ScottishPower Renewables as a Graduate Engineer working on the East Anglia ONE execution phase, coordinating construction and taking part in offshore engineering training.

Tim said: “ScottishPower Renewables’ graduate scheme is an amazing opportunity to really dive into the offshore wind industry. I’ve learnt a huge amount in just one year. I was drawn to wind energy due to the industry’s complexity and the engineering challenges it presents.

“The graduate scheme is broken up into a series of placements which have been vital in showing how ScottishPower Renewables works as a company. The placement offers far more to graduates than a regular job in terms of personal development, training and opportunities within the industry.”
